Lilly Singh is living her truth.
The 30-year-old YouTube star came out on Twitter as bisexual and called herself “female,” “coloured,” and “bisexual” followed by a positive message embracing the identities as superpowers.
“Throughout my life these have proven to be obstacles from time to time. But now I’m fully embracing them as my superpowers,” wrote Singh, whose online handle is IISuperwomanII. “No matter how many ‘boxes’ you check, I encourage you to do the same x.”
The Canadian’s announcement comes three months after she took a break from posting to her popular YouTube channel. She says the reason why she just stopped uploading was the need to focus on her mental health and creative energy. “I’m not my optimal happiness right now. I could be mentally healthier,” she said in a video posted on November 12th.
Fellow YouTube stars such as Shawn Dawson and others gave her tons of support as did other members of the YouTube and Twitter communities.
Singh has appeared in a few movies such as Bad Moms, Ice Age: Collision Course and the HBO adaptation of Fahrenheit 451.
