The BTS Army sort of predicted this and true enough, it happened! BTS scored their third number one album in less than 12 months as Map Of The Soul: Persona clocked in at No. 1 on this week’s Billboard 200 chart. The seven-track album sold 230,000 equivalent album units in the US, with 196,000 of those in pure album sales (digital downloads and retail purchases). Both numbers are career bests for the K-Pop supergroup and the album was streamed a whopping 37.4 million times from its April 12 release date.
It’s the third number one album for BTS in under 11 months as Love Yourself: Tear hit No. 1 last June and then Love Yourself: Answer hit No. 1 last September. They’re also the first group since the Beatles to nab three No. 1 albums in less than a year and the Beatles all did it with Anthology albums in 1995 and 1996.
Elsewhere on the chart, Anderson .Paak scored his first Top 5 album as Ventura hit at No. 4, Ariana Grande‘s thank u next is No. 6, last week’s No. 1 Khalid is now No. 2 and Beyoncé‘s surprise release of Homecoming: The Live Album managed to go No. 7 with 38,000 units sold in just two days of tracking.
