Comedian Norm Macdonald showed a side of him not too many people get to see.

Last night during his final stand-up on the Late Show with David Letterman, the comedian showed love and paid tribute to the “greatest talk-show host who ever lived” by delivering his favorite David Letterman joke of all time.

Mr. Letterman is not for the mawkish, and he has no truck for the sentimental,” he said when he was done. “If something is true, it is not sentimental. And I say in truth, I love you.

David Letterman’s final show is May 20, which CBS says “which will be an hour filled with surprises [and] memorable highlights.”
