Ice cube is a timeless rapper, record producer, respected actor and filmmaker, but there was a time when he was solely on a mission to feed ‘Street Knowledge’ to the world. He had built a name for himself early on, but his real talents weren’t really recognized being a part of a group setting with NWA. Due to a falling out with the group, it allowed Ice Cube to create and grow to his full potential. After the break up, He released his debut album that would not only influence hip hop in a major way but also be the catalyst of who ICE CUBE is today.

Lets take a moment to look into the creation of the 25 year old ‘AmeriKKKa’s Most Wanted’

Ice Cube began his career as a member of the hip-hop group C.I.A and later joined N.W.A

After leaving N.W.A in December 1989 after a very publicized and heated riff over contracts with Ruthless Records, He linked up with Sir Jinx, Dr. Dre’s cousin and Cube made use of pre-written notebooks of songs meant for N.W.A. member/Ruthless co-founder Eazy- E and released his debut album AmeriKKKa’s Most Wanted .

“So when I went solo, I was like I wanted Dr. Dre to do AmeriKKKa’s Most Wanted, but Jerry Heller vetoed that…and I’m pretty sure Eazy didn’t want Dre to do it, But Dre did want to do it; we gotta put that on record. Dre wanted to do my record, but it was just too crazy with the break-up of N.W.A.” —Ice Cube, “Ice Cube, AmeriKKKa’s Most Wanted Retrospective [20 Years Later]”, XXL

The title of the album appears to be like the popular Tv show America’s Most Wanted, The intentional misspelling of “America” with three Ks alludes to the white supremacist Ku Klux Klan. The album was an unexpectedly large critical and commercial success, but was charged with controversy, and he was accused of misogyny and racism for speaking out on issues like: ghetto life, poverty, racism, and sexism.
AmeriKKKa’s Most Wanted was  released on May 15, 1990. Primarily produced by Public Enemy’s production team The Bomb Squad, and remains one of the defining hip hop albums of the 1990s.
The process in which the album was made is interesting and unimaginable these days, but Ice cube explains it in the 3 part documentary of “Making of AmeriKKKA’s Most Wanted” released earlier this year to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the Album.

Ice Cube continued to release more albums speaking on social times and controversial subject matter and is known as one of the G.O.A.Ts and Founding Fathers of Gangsta Rap.

He has built a successful solo career in music and as an actor in blockbuster films. Today we Salute the Amazing Cube!!
Happy Birthday Ice Cube many more!!
