(HARRIS COUNTY)–Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector, Mike Sullivan, announced Wednesday more than one million tax bills will hit mailboxes in the upcoming weeks.

Property owners will see tax increases due to rising appraisal values.

“This week 900,000 tax bills have been mailed and another 200,000 will go out in the next few weeks. By the end of the month,  will be received by property owners,” said Tax Assessor-Collector Mike Sullivan.

Harris county is growing at a rapid pace and as a result, property appraisal values are on the rise. These changes will be reflected on the taxpayers bill.

“Compared to last year’s tax bill, the average homestead throughout Harris County, Houston, the surrounding school districts and cities could see an increase of approximately $400 in property taxes,” said Mr. Sullivan.

This year $5.6 billion are expected to be collected. The money will be distributed as follows: Harris County will receive $2 billion in tax revenues, the Houston Independent School District will receive $1.5 billion and the City of Houston will receive $1.1 billion in revenues.

“I want all taxpayers to review their bill carefully to ensure they have all of the exemptions they are entitled to receive.”

The bills are due by January 31, 2015, so all property owners are encouraged to pay their bill as soon as possible. For more information please contact the office at 713-274-8000 or visit the website at www.hctax.net.
