We salute and wish a Happy Birthday to the late Adam “MCA” Yauch of The Beastie Boys!

Born in Brooklyn, New York, MCA started his musical career in 1981 as the bass player in a punk-rock band called the Young Aborigines – the group that would eventually transform into The Beastie Boys with Michael “Mike D” Diamond and Adam “Ad-Rock” Horovitz.

The young Beastie Boys met a producer named Rick Rubin, who would sign them to his new label, Def Jam Recordings. The Beastie Boys went on to record seven platinum-selling albums, and become one of the most respected and legendary hip-hop groups of all time.

One of the founding members of the Beastie Boys, MCA was also a film and music video director- responsible for most of the Beastie Boys music videos. MCA was also a human rights activist, who spoke up on many social and political injustices.

In 2009, MCA was diagnosed with a form of lymphatic cancer, and died in 2012 at the age of 47. The Beastie Boys have since made a pledge to never record any new music in honor of MCA.

We remember and salute the hip-hop renaissance man, Adam “MCA” Yauch!
