Born Erik Schrody, Everlast grew up in Valley Stream, New York. His love for hip-hop took him to Los Angeles, where rapper Ice-T was impressed enough by his skills to ask him to join his Rhyme Syndicate Cartel.

Everlast debuted in 1990 with a solo effort titled “Forever Everlasting”. The album did not do well commercially, so Everlast teamed up with DJ Lethal and high school friend Danny Boy to form the group House of Pain.

House of Pain signed to Tommy Boy Records, and their debut album in 1992 went multi-platibum. They spawned a mega-hit and hip-hop classic with the song Jump Around.

The group disbanded in 1996 after a few more albums, and Everlast found hard times when he suffered a heart attack. After a full recovery, he pursued a solo career again and went multi-latibum with “Whitey Ford Sings the Blues”.

In 2000, he won a Grammy for collaborating with Santana on “Put Your Lights On”. He has since gone on to find his own record label, continue to release solo work, and even rock with former House of Pain members in the supergroup “La Coka Nostra”.

Today we salute and wish a Happy Birthday to the man wo really knows what it’s like, Everlast!
