Born in Harlem and raised in Jersey City, Joe Budden encountered a drug problem as a teenager, even going to rehab in 1997. After getting clean, Budden began freestyling with high school friends, and eventually made his way to several New York mix tapes with the likes of DJ Clue.
In 2003, he released his see titled debut solo album under Def Jam Records. It included the grammy nominated smash hit, Pump It Up.
Due to problems with Def Jam, Budden wouldn’t release his next album until 2009, with his new label Amalgram Digital. The same year, he co-founded the group “Slaughterhouse” with fellow MCs Crooked I, Royce Da 5’9″, and Joell Ortiz.
Still cutting records today, he is also a recurring guest on VH1s show “Love and Hip-Hop”.
Today we salute and wish a Happy Birthday to the east coast’s very own, Joe Budden!
