Born Clifford Joseph Harris, Jr. in Atlanta, T.I. has been rapping since he was 8 years-old. By the time Harris was a teen he and local Atl rapper Big Kuntry King began selling mix tapes out of the trunk of their car and after being discovered, T.I would sign his first Major deal with Arista/LaFace Records at only the age of nineteen.
He originally signed under the stage name T.I.P., that stemmed from his childhood nickname “Tip”, given by his grandfather, but He later changed it to T.I. out of respect for label mate Q-Tip. Harris dropped his debut album “Im Serious” but Due to poor sales, T.I. asked for a renegotiation deal with Arista or be released from his contract; he was granted his release and dropped from the label.
Shortly thereafter, Harris establish his own recording company called Grand Hustle, around the same time getting the attention of Atlantic Records after his collaboration on Bone Crusher’s single, “Never Scared”.
T.I. then released Trap music that produced numerous hits, making him one of the South’s most electrifying young rappers, and even ignited the short lived beef between Himself and Houston’s Lil Flip, over the title of King of the South.
T.I. continued to drop other successful albums and began starring in Films like ATL, but His career took a breather after a sentence related to Federal gun charges. After his release, he has recovered his career by continuing to record successful albums and starring in major films like American Hustler, Takers, Identity Theft and has even branched out into reality tv with his wife and kids in the VH1 series ‘T.I and Tiny: the Family Hustle”.
Today we salute 2 time grammy award winner and one the most accomplished southern rappers of the new millennium, T.I.!
