Warner Bros. and DC Comics are slowly but surely putting together an expanded universe of must-see movies in 2015, and yesterday the film giants moved a few more pieces into place. The cast of the upcoming “Suicide Squad” film now includes Will Smith as the assassin supreme Deadshot (pictured above), and Jared Leto will take on the role as The Joker.
Smith’s last blockbuster, 2013’s “After Earth,” was a critical and commercial non-starter, but he wouldn’t be the first actor to get a career reboot from a superhero flick.
The “Suicide Squad” is a team of super villains seeking amnesty and redemption by working with the government. “The Wolf of Wall Street” star Margot Robbie will take on the role of Harley Quinn, Tom Hardy will play the military-trained Eric Flag, Cara Delevinge will appear as The Enchantress, and Jai Courtney will star as Boomerang.
The role of “Suicide Squad” leader Amanda Waller is still looking to be cast, with Oprah Winfrey as the main choice. Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer are also on the shortlist of actresses for the role.
