The eight plus year lawsuit against Jay-Z and Timbaland regarding his “Big Pimpin'” song has been dismissed,

According to a report, U.S. District Judge Christina A. Snyder made the ruling today (October 21) that the family of Baligh Hamdi did not have the right to pursue a copyright claim against Jay Z and Timbaland, who produced the song.

Timbaland sampled Baligh Hamdi‘s “Khosara, Khosara” on “Big Pimpin'” and Jay Z and Timbaland testified that they believed they had gone through the proper legal protocol when they incorporated the song.

Last week Jay Z testified in court regarding the rights to the sample and spent 90 minutes detailing his music career, citing the liner notes in his Vol. 3… Life and Times of S. Carter as evidence that he and producer Timbaland legally used the Egyptian song “Khosara, Khosara” for the sample.

Can you imagine going back and forth to court for 8 years over a sample? Crazy!
