Could we see Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson in court soon?

The 2016 Record of the Year have some debating if that song was taken from one of the first rap groups from 1979. “Uptown Funk” has gotten over one billion views on YouTube and according to a report from TMZ, the pioneering female rap group has suggested legal action. .

The Sequence are suggesting their 1979 song “Funk You Up” was used as “inspiration” for the recent mega hit. The female trio consists of Angie Stone (yes that Angie Stone from R&B fame), Cheryl the Pearl and Blondie (not “Rapture” singer Debbie Harry). Their representative Kali Bowyer are threatening a lawsuit.

Is Uptown Funk a stolen song?

In May of 2015, all five writers of The Gap Band’s 1979 hit “Oops Upside Your Head” were given credit for “Uptown Funk” after a brief battle.
