Since the car service Uber launched, they’ve made some big waves, not just with their rapidly growing customer base and network of drivers, but also in terms of headlines in the news. They’ve run into a number of legal clashes in different cities, and not just over their definite threat to city cab companies, like in New York. Some cities have seen sexual assault cases, and even murder charges brought against Uber drivers.

Of course, this calls into question how Uber vets its potential drivers to ensure safe rides for passengers. But the demand for strict background checks and fingerprinting, as well as the national scrutiny and government action the question has provoked, may leave some qualified people out of a well-paying job.
