As part of my Big Hero 6 Red Carpet and ABC Television Experience, I was given the amazing chance to non other than Fergie herself. She visited with us to talk about the American Music Awards as well as her life being a mom. She is such a beautiful person and I lvd how honest she was in all of her answers. She broke out in measures of song every so often during the interview and her voice is so captivating. I could just sit and listen to her for hours, no music, no background vocals just Fergie. Check out my interview with Fergie below.

ABOUT FERGIE:

She has a long standing relationship with the American Music Awards. In 2007, she won Top Pop Rock Female for a solo record, The Duchess, which went on to sell 6.2 million copies and 20.5 million tracks worldwide. And also sung three number one hits on the top 100, London Bridge, Glamorous, and Big Girls Don’t Cry, as well as five top singles, Fergielicious and Clumsy.

She’s also won five AMA’s as a member of the multi-platinum group, The Black Eyed Peas. And she recently released L.A. Love which she’ll perform for the first time at this year’s AMA’s later this month.

INTERVIEW WITH FERGIE:

Fergie: Hey, what’s up? Welcome, welcome, mommy bloggers, hello.

So thanks for coming today. I’m really excited, I’m going to be performing at the American Music Awards this year. It’s a big deal for me coming back and taking that big stage and also doing New Year’s Rockin’ Eve on the same weekend. So it’ll be a busy week for me, probably not the best week for mommy time with Axl, because I will be working over time, but I’ll make it up the next week. And you know how that is.

Q: What is your favorite thing to do besides music? I know music is your passion, but movies, fashion…?

Fergie: OK, music, in life or career?

Q: Career life?

Fergie: I do love anything to do with entertaining, doing the film 9 as well but I guess that would be music as well, because it was a musical. But yeah, fashion definitely. I definitely read WWD everyday and I get the paper edition, actually. That’s like my little private moment, just for me time. Because I’m a true believer in making sure that you have just a little bit of that time that’s just for you. It’s not that long in the morning and it extends into my inspiration for the day at whatever I’m doing, whether it be having designing for shoes or planning my next video or performance. It’s really coming to play that way, but it’s a really fun thing just for me as well.

Q: How do you balance it all?

Fergie: It’s a constant challenge for me, but that was why I didn’t have a baby and put music out right away, I really wanted to make sure that I have my structure, as far as being a mom and just starting with simplicity. I was very blessed to have the time where I can just be at home and spend time with my baby and really learn how being a mom all works, because I have no idea what I was doing. I had nothing. I mean I didn’t have babies around, it wasn’t like one of those families. My husband did, he had little sisters and they were very far apart. So he got to be a teenager seeing a baby born and experiencing that. I didn’t have that, so it was just kind of figuring it out and really letting this natural instincts kick in along with me and my husband. We’re currently just figuring it out, then adding work back in to my day. Then writing and my husband time came into play. Just juggling it all and I now was able to put studio back in, and I’m putting back in rehearsals and meeting with you guys and all of that, but it’s really a true balance because you can have it all, just not all at once. I believe that something’s got to give at a certain point, so it’s definitely beginning to look, like I said, that week’s going to be a very hard for me work wise. So it’s probably not going to be my best mommy commitment week. But you balance it out and you make it up, and that’s how I do it. I balance it out and kind of titter totter it.

Q 8: Has being a mom changed your music selection on you two, or what change different, with all the AMA’s or. Does that change your perspective on music?

Fergie: Being a mom?

Speaker 8: Yes.

Fergie: Somewhat. Because now songs, I’ll start thinking about him and certain lyrics I just want to write about him, because there’s just so much feeling there. But other times it’s challenging for me because no, I don’t even think about it yet, because he’s 14 months. Oh my gosh, here’s a mom saying these things and so, that is a challenge that I’m just going to have to work out. I don’t think I’m going to be the most conservative mom ever. That’s not who I am as a person.

But as far as being kind and being nice and not spoiled, I definitely try to be a good mom that way. I don’t know, I’m still working that out, girl. That’s a good question.

Q 10: Do you have any tips on how you juggle everything ?

Fergie: I am a scheduler and now Josh and I have a joint calendar color. I have my calendar color, he’s got his calendar color and now I’m breaking it up even more. I’m starting to get even more colors because it is like for my work, that’s going to be a color and now it’s OK, there’s me and Axl time. But then there’s me and Axl and daddy time. And then there’s me and daddy time. And those are all important in different ways. I see it as like a pie chart.

One time my mom called me, and she was said, what are you doing? I said, I’m making a pie and I’m writing it between Axl’s … and she’s like, what? You’re making a pie? I was wondering on the hottest day of the year, why would you be making a pie? I thought well, good for you.

I really have to break it down and be very linear with it, so that everything gets balanced even … it’s hard, it’s not going to be perfect. But you try and you do your best and you throw it out there and that’s all you can really do is your best.
