Actor Gene Wilder Portrait Session

Hollywood got a little less funny Monday as comedic actor Gene Wilder passed away at the age of 83. He died in his home located in Stamford, CT.

Wilder was best known for his role in the 1971 film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. (I never saw that movie).

But for me I became a fan when my dad took me to see Silver Streak starring he and Richard Pryor. My dad loved Richard Pryor and seeing how Silver Streak had a PG rating I was allowed to roll with him.

Four years later Wilder and Pryor starred in the prison comedy Stir Crazy. It was rated R but I guess my dad figured 11-year old me could handle the language so we checked that one out as well. I’ll never forget my dad laughing his face off when the two are first brought to jail. Maybe it’s the fact that he worked at a prison and had seen this type of behavior or he just thoroughly enjoyed the pairing or the two men. Either way it seems like we both were saying “that’s right, we bad” for the next several years.

RIP Gene Wilder. Thanks for the laughter and the great memories.
