This year rap icons De La Soul proved that anything can be possible with the help of a Kickstarter page and loyal fans.
Last year De La Soul asked for help from fans through the money collecting website for projects and events. With their fans providing funds it helped give the crew a No. 1 rap album on Billboard. Now a group of directors are asking those same fans to help them crowdfund their documentary on the illustrious Native Tongue Posse.
For those who don’t know, the Native Tongue Posse was one of most talented hip-hop crews of the 1990s. The members consist of De La Soul, Queen Latifah, A Tribe Called Quest, the Jungle Brothers, Monie Love, Black Sheep and Chi-Ali.
A Kickstarter campaign has been launched by the creators of the upcoming documentary called Speaking In Tongues: The Legend Of The Native Tongue Posse. The synopsis reads in part:
It’s a feature length documentary that unravels the ‘legend’ of a music collective known as The Native Tongue Posse – a group of pioneers who, through their mere formation, unwittingly changed the landscape of music and youth culture in the late 80’s and early 90’s.
The Kickstarter campaign offers different levels of rewards for your donation including T-shirts, a DVD of the movie, an engraved wooden Bluetooth speaker, a round of golf with Dres of Black Sheep and even a spa day with Monie Love.
