Add another accolade to the resume of the kid from Brooklyn’s Marcy projects.
Yesterday (Oct. 20th), Jay-Z was nominated for a spot in the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
The release of Hov’s 1996 debut album Reasonable Doubt made him eligible for the award because candidates are eligible after 20 years of writing music. Hov has a chance to become the first rapper to be inducted.
Other performing songwriters up for the class of 2017 include Madonna, George Michael, Cat Stevens, Jeff Lynne, Sly Stone, Gloria Estefan, Bryan Adams, Vince Gill , Bread’s David Gates and the songwriting teams that make up the bands Chicago and Kool & The Gang.
The final group of five individual writers or writing teams will be inducted in a ceremony to be held in New York on June 15.
