If you didn’t see it. A Tribe Called Quest solidified their return to the game over the weekend.
An historic Saturday Night Live had several special moments with their host Dave Chappelle and the might Tribe rockin’ their new music in two poignant performances.
First Dave Chappelle made his return to host the first broadcast of the show to air since Donald Trump was elected as the 45th U.S. president. Chappelle’s monologue spoke about today’s events and it was vintage Dave.
For the first time, the members of A Tribe Called Quest performed on the SNL stage. Q-Tip, Jarobi White and Ali Shaheed Muhammad got political with their performance of “We The People…” with Tip telling the audience, “We are all one. We are the People.”
In a moving tribute to the fallen Tribe member, for Phife Dawg’s verse on the song, the camera focused on a piece of art with the five-foot-assassin’s face on it.
For their second SNL song, the Queens collective was also joined by Busta Rhymes and frequent collaborator Consequence, who both popped up out of the crowd for a performance of “The Space Program.”
