Seems like it was just yesterday when Janelle Monae graced The Ed Lover Show studio and made it very clear that “Moonlight” was going to be a critically-acclaimed cinematic hit.

Well, a few weeks later – her statement was proven factual, as the film’s co-star Mahershala Ali took home the trophy for Best Supporting Actor for his role as ‘Juan‘ in Moonlight, at the 22nd annual Critics’ Choice Awards in Los Angeles Sunday.

Ali moved audiences with his portrayal of Juan, a flawed drug dealer who acts as a mentor to young Chiron, the main character of the film; dishing out wisdom and, in an particularly touching moment, teaching him how to swim.

“I’d like to start by thanking my wife just for being so generous and supporting me and working on every audition, every project I get to go out on, she works with me.”

Take a look at our interview with Janelle Monae as she spoke about “Moonlight” …
