Anyone who saw Mariah’s performance in Times Square knows that it wasn’t the superstar’s finest moment.
Carey’s team explains what went wrong by saying TMZ that Dick Clark Productions sabotaged her performance by misleading her as to how well her ear-pieces would work once she hit the stage.
TMZ reports that Carey’s team claim they repeatedly complained about her faulty earpieces but that they were assured she’d be able to hear the music once she began to perform — assurances that, obviously, failed to materialize.
Dick Clark Productions has hit back, again through TMZ, to say that the suggestion that they were to blame for the now-viral malfunction is “defamatory … outrageous and frankly absurd.”
They also said that Carey passed on doing a sound check herself ahead of the show.
However, the statement did appear to strike a somewhat conciliatory note, at least.
“We want to be clear that we have the utmost respect for Ms. Carey as an artist and acknowledge her tremendous accomplishments in the industry.”
Mariah’s twitter page offered this after the incident occurred.
