Verne Troyer, the actor best known as “Mini Me” in the Austin Powers films has died, according to a family rep. He was 49. According to TMZ, he had been on some form of life support after he was hospitalized earlier this month.
Troyer struggled with alcoholism for years including numerous stints in rehab. Born with the genetic disorder known as achondroplasia dwarfism, Troyer said growing up on a farm in Michigan he was never treated differently by his parents than his average-sized siblings.
Troyer’s Hollywood career began in 1994 as he starred as a baby double in the film, Baby’s Day Out. He took on small roles in 1997’s Men In Black and 1998’s Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas before 1999’s Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me turned him into an international star.
