You may be familiar with her loud contagious laugh, or even with her popular catch phase, (Tu Chava de la Radio, Subele, Subele, Subele!!) -Grisel Barajas adds a spicy twist to music as the midday personality for KROI- Radio Now Houston 92.1FM and as the afternoon personality for WNOW-HD3 La Grande 105.1FM in Indianapolis, IN- where she also takes on the role of content creator and on-air talent for Telemundo 19-WDNI-CD an affiliate owned by Radio One. This talented Latina covers her ground through both television and radio always providing her listeners, viewers, and followers with relevant and exciting content. Ever since she was a young girl, Grisel had a special interest for telling stories and entertaining others. Her ability to navigate between two cultural worlds would eventually become the platform for her unique Spanglish style. In 2011, she obtained a Bachelor of Social Work and a Bachelor of Psychology from the University of Southern Indiana. In 2014, she received a Master of Arts in Communications also from USI, and became the first Latina to give a graduation reflection speech. Grisel began her radio career with WEOA, a Hip-Hop and R&B station in Evansville, Indiana where she started as an account executive with the dream to one day land an opportunity behind the microphone. With time this dream became a reality when she was named midday personality. Grisel used her Spanish to spice-up her segments, cutting in with Spanish words and phrases in-between her talk breaks quickly caught the attention and energy of her listeners. This turned her into the first bilingual radio-host in the Indiana tri-state area. In 2015, Barajas received the opportunity to debut in her very own ‘Spanglish’ radio show, for WEDJ in Indianapolis, Indiana. Her concept of bouncing back and forth between languages, tied to her charismatic personality, and controversial radio topics rapidly turned Barajas into a household name among Latinos in the area. In 2016, her work as an on-air personality was recognized by Indy Eleven and the City of Indianapolis with the “Champions of the City” Award. Part of her trajectory in broadcasting includes working as a news reporter for WEHT/WTVW in Henderson, Kentucky, podcast producer for WNIN- an NPR station in Evansville, IN, and content provider for Vida Latina Magazine in Indianapolis, IN. Grisel’s passion lies in the stories of the people. Her personal mission is to develop opportunities for other minorities in the industry, all while helping listeners get through the day with her upbeat energy, charismatic personality and radiant smile, which according to listeners you can often “feel through the radio.” Regardless of which language she is broadcasting in Grisel is recognized for leaving her listeners with one of three things- entertainment, education, or motivation!
